Dr. Steffen Zeichner is an acclaimed violinist, educator, and recording artist expanding the boundaries of the instrument across jazz, classical, Klezmer, and pop.
Based in South Florida, he performs extensively as the leader of 5 String Swing, a dynamic, jazz violin-driven ensemble specializing in swing, American Standards, and Klezmer repertoire. He also performs regularly with the innovative, groove-oriented string group the Fox Chop Trio, and the Alhambra Orchestra, where he serves as Concertmaster.
An experienced studio musician, Dr. Zeichner is credited on numerous commercial releases, Downbeat-awarded recordings, and multiple Grammy-winning and nominated albums. Notably, he was featured as both violin soloist and concertmaster for legendary guitarist George Benson's album, Inspiration. Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with an array of premier artists, including Chick Corea, Gloria Estefan, Cyrille Aimée, Nestor Torres, Kenny Loggins, Maria Schneider, and Terence Blanchard.
Steffen is a passionate educator with a focus on developing the creative potential of string players through exposing them to musical styles outside of the classical world and helping them to develop improvisational and real-world performance skills. He maintains an international private studio, teaching students both virtually and in-person, and serves as the Adjunct Lecturer of Jazz Violin at Florida International University.
Dr. Zeichner holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Indiana University, as well as a Master of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Miami.
